restoration story - cane chair revival
A client came to us with a set of damaged cane chairs — beautiful pieces, but in need of expert attention. Cane work can be particularly challenging, and these chairs proved to be one of the most demanding projects we’ve taken on at A1 Furniture. With curved backs and intricate fittings, precision was essential.
To achieve the correct shape and tension, a specialised tool was sourced and modified, and a custom support brace was built to ensure the cane was formed perfectly to the frame. Once the cane work was complete, the chairs were carefully sanded back and re-polished to restore their original warmth and finish.
The result - A stunning transformation. The chairs were brought back to life, looking as good as new while retaining their timeless character. We had a very happy customer.

restoration story - a desk worth saving
A client approached us with a damaged leg on their old French desk — a piece with both character and sentimental value. The wooden leg had broken and required careful repair to restore both its strength and original appearance.
Using traditional turning techniques, a new wooden leg was crafted to match the existing design and proportions of the desk. The replacement was seamlessly integrated, ensuring the desk retained its authenticity and structural integrity.
The result was a beautifully restored piece, returned to full functionality while maintaining its original charm. Our client was delighted with the outcome and able to enjoy their treasured desk once again.
